With a severe nut allergy, finding safe food to eat can be challenging. Baking nut-free cookies has become my happy place. Baking is when I can feel safe and put my anxiety to rest for a while. The fact that the melted butter and sugar make my house smell amazing is a bonus.
This Thanksgiving and Christmas, I anonymously delivered cookies and little notes to local families who have medically fragile and terminally ill children. It's my way of saying, “You are seen, and you matter.” I know my medical challenges are real, but so many people face far greater obstacles, so I like to do what I can to brighten their day.
An act of kindness doesn’t have to be in the shape of a cookie. It can be helping a neighbor with yardwork, holding the door for someone who is carrying too much, or sending a text to someone who is struggling. An act of kindness doesn’t have to be a big, or take a lot of work; it just has to be heartfelt.
