If you have severe food allergies and are heading off to college anytime soon, you may want to check out the University of Richmond. I recently visited the school and was shocked by the extent to which I felt welcomed, taken care of, and truly seen. A kitchen manager allowed my family and I to see the dining facilities and explained that Richmond has a designated chef for students with food allergies. This chef’s job is to prepare meals that are guaranteed to be free from the top allergens. The manager explained that the chef cooks meals for approximately 35 students per semester whose restrictions make it dangerous for them to eat foods that most other students can. This chef has his own “Fan FARE” section in the Heilman Dining Center, which overall was beautiful and impressive. I want to say a huge thank you to the University of Richmond for being so friendly and accommodating to allergies.
