Perspective for Stressed Students
Updated: Oct 30
I recently came across two different, but related quotes. In a NY Times article written by Pope Francis, he joked that there are only two types of perfect people – dead people and people not born. In other words, perfection doesn’t really exist.
Then, I heard a podcast playing in my mom’s car and the guest said, “If you are perfect, there won’t be anyone in the world to relate to you.” Sometimes we are so busy trying to be perfect that we forget it’s an exhausting and impossible goal that might leave us feeling lonely in the end.
The reminders came at a great time. As I work through the important first quarter of my senior year, I feel stress and pressure. So, I’m grateful for the reminder that it’s ok to be perfectly imperfect. We can only do our best, learn from our experiences, and have faith that it will all be okay in the end.
